Chemical Weeding
If you can't get rid of all your weeds manually, chemical products exist in garden stores which will finish the job. Note, however, that these products may have unhealthy consequences for you and your garden.
Here is some advice to minimize the impact of these produces on the flora and fauna of your garden, and indeed on the environment in general :
-
Make sure that the product carries an authorization for use in gardens.
-
Choose defoliant products rather than anti-germinating products, which are spread on the soil.
-
Choose products which are less penetrating in the soil.
-
Follow the instructions of use and the required dosage closely, as the products are concentrated. Using more of the product than necessary will not make it more efficient and will damage your soil. you should also respect the frequency of use.
-
Farmers are not the only ones who pollute ponds and waterways. Don't use chemical products near a humid area, especially if your soil is impermeable.
-
Make sure that the weather conditions are suitable for use of the product - no wind or rain forecast which could transport the product towards a waterway, for example. The product should be used when temperatures are between 10 and 25°C.
-
Don't treat the area on dry days or in Winter, as the sap doesn't circulate in plants or does so very little at these times.
-
When preparing and applying chemical products, protect yourself with gloves and a mask.
-
Don't throw away the unused products in your garden, down the drain or down the toilet.
