How to Recognize Pines and Spruces?
Abies : these are the real fir trees. They have flat pins on the upper half of the branch. Their cones grow upright.
Cedrus : cedar. They have short, sharp evergreen pins which grow around the branch like a sprinkler. Their cones hang below the branch.
Picea : false cypress. The branches are covered with scales.
Juniperus : junipers. The branches are also covered with scales.
